Privacy Statement
Orion Aeromedical provides air ambulance, medical repatriation and medical escort services. To do this safely, we need to collect and use health and personal information about the patients we care for. We are committed to protecting that information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.
What we collect
We collect information needed to plan and provide your care and transport. This includes your name, contact and identification details, medical history, current condition, treatment, and details of your travel and insurance.
Where we get it from
We collect information from you or your representative wherever possible. Often, though, we receive it before we meet you. It may come from:
-
the doctors and hospitals caring for you;
-
your travel or health insurer;
-
medical assistance companies acting on your insurer's behalf; or
-
other healthcare providers involved in your care.
Why we collect it
We use your information to:
-
assess whether transport is safe and what care you need;
-
plan and carry out your transfer;
-
provide clinical care during the mission;
-
hand over your care to the receiving team;
-
arrange payment with your insurer; and
-
meet our legal, clinical and quality obligations.
Who we share it with
We share only the information each party needs for their role. They may include:
-
the hospitals and healthcare providers sending and receiving you;
-
your insurer or assistance company;
-
our aviation partner and other transport providers involved in your journey, who receive only the information they need, such as weight, mobility and oxygen requirements for safety, and passport and travel details for customs and immigration clearance;
-
customs, immigration and border authorities in New Zealand and other countries, where required for your travel; and
-
your representative where you have authorised this or the law permits it.
Because we operate internationally, some of these recipients may be outside New Zealand. Where we share information overseas, we take steps to make sure it is protected as required by New Zealand law.
How we protect and keep it
Your information is held in secure, access-controlled systems. Only personnel who need it for your care or transport can access it. We keep health records for at least 10 years after we last provided services to you, as required by New Zealand law. After that, they are securely destroyed when no longer needed.
Your rights
You, or your authorised representative, have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you. You can also ask us to correct it if you believe it is wrong. We will respond as soon as possible, and within the timeframes required by the Privacy Act 2020.
Our website
Our website is hosted by a third-party provider, which may store information outside New Zealand. If you contact us through our website enquiry form, we collect your name, company, email address, phone number and message, and use them only to respond to your enquiry. Our website provider may also use cookies to operate the site and understand how it is used.
Please do not include medical or patient information in the enquiry form. Instead, email it directly to operations@orionaeromedical.com. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to privacy@orionaeromedical.com.
